Nobby's Burger
The catch phrase on the menu is "Nobody does burgers better than Nobby's"And they may actually be right.
I, would never go so far as to make such a bold statement, because I simply haven't tried EVERY burger place out there.
In fact, Chico has a number of excellent places to get a burger, It all depends on what you are looking for in a burger.
If the idea of having the cheese grilled onto your burger, with a little bit of crust where it melted down onto the grill appeals to you. This is definately the place to go.
The meat is high quality, and the cooks take the time to do the food right.
There is no hurry to getting a burger here.
When you call in an order, your are told to pick it up in 20 minutes.
On site, ordering to eat there or pick up. The timing is not really that long. And even if you have to wait a while to get your food, isn't good food worth waiting for.
This place opened up while I was directing Newscasts at one of the local TV stations. Our station did a story about the opening of Nobby's about a week after they opened their doors. By this time, they already had a good following and plenty of business to keep themselves busy.
They actually got upset with us, because we drove their business beyond what it could really handle at the time.
Nearly a decade later, Nobby's is still going strong, and there is always a line to order at lunch and dinner times.
The restaurant is in a tiny building that used to be a single bay garage and gas station, but you would never know that looking at the building today.
Sitting at the corner of 15th and Park Ave sits what I consider to be a historical building in the beginnings of some great chico eateries.
This building was the original site of Gas House Pizza (a chico icon) and is now the home of what many would argue is the best burgers in town.
I don't eat a lot of burgers anymore, but when I get a craving for one, this is one of the first places I think about to curb my urge.
Their Beer Batter Onion rings and fries are first rate.
And if Beef isn't your thing, they make a mean chicken sandwhich as well as a number of sandwiches.
The menu is simple, keeping to what they do best.
